Barkhouse


Barkhouse, Allen Parker: August, 4, 1983, Halifax Chronicle Herald, Halifax, NS: Funeral for Allen Parker Barkhouse, age 74, of 20 Seventh Street, Lower Sackville, and formerly of Port Dufferin, who died Monday at home, will be held 2 pm today in St. James United Church, Sheet Harbour. Born in Port Dufferin, he was a son of the late Edmund and Mary (Burgoyne) Barkhouse. Inadvertently omitted from the list of survivors in the obituary for Mr. Barkhouse in Wednesday’s edition of the Chronicle Herald is a brother, James of Port Dufferin. The body is in Crowell’s Funeral Home, Sheet Harbour. Burial will be in Quoddy United Church Cemetery.

Barkhouse, Joseph Alexander: Chronicle-Herald: Died March 11, 1967 age 44 of Sheet Harbour NS in the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax, NS. He was the son of Mrs. Bertha Barkhouse and the late Alexander Barkhouse. He was a well-known truckman in the area and a member of the Masonic Lodge. Besides his mother he is survived by his wife the former Agnes Martin, three daughters, Jo-ann, Mrs. Neil Hubley, Westphal NS, Clara (Mrs. James Leslie) Fairview NS, and Patricia at home. Six sisters, Mrs. Pearl Farris, Mrs. Ola Walsh, Miss Isay Barkhouse, Cora (Mrs. Ralph Owens), Gladys (Mrs. Founce Gillis) all of Sheet Harbour, Rita (Mrs. Earl Snow) Harrigan Cove, three brothers Gerald, Ansel, and Wallace all of Sheet Harbour, two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at St James Anglican Church Watt Section with internment at St Peter’s Cemetery, Sheet Harbour, NS. (Correction by J. Cordes: The obituary published in the March 6, 1967 edition of the Chronicle Herald states: “Joseph Alexander Barkhouse, 44, Sheet Harbour, died Saturday at Victoria General Hospital.” This indicates that Joseph actually died on March 4, 1967. Also, Joseph’s sister may be Miss Ismay Barkhouse instead of Miss Isay Barkhouse.)

Barkhouse – Snow, Rita Mary: The Chronicle Herald, Halifax, NS: Snow, Rita Mary, 97, passed away June 10, 2003 at the Northwood Centre, Halifax, NS. She was born October 14, 1905 in Sheet Harbour, the daughter of Alexander and Bertha MacDonald Barkhouse. She is survived by a daughter, Beryl and Fred Kirker, Halifax; sons, Garnet (Bonita); Robert (Shanawa); both of Harrigan Cove; Daily (Suzanne), St Margaret’s Bay; brother, Ansel; sisters; Ola Walsh, Ismay Barkhouse, all of Sheet Harbour; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 2 great great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by husband Earl in 1983; brothers Lorne, Gerald, Joseph, Grant; sisters  Pearl Farris, Cora Owen, Gladys Gillis. Funeral service will be held at St James United church Sheet Harbour, Rev Micheal Brooks officiating.

Bingley


Bingley – MacDonald, Myrtle Lillian: Monday October 24, 2005, The Halifax Herald, Halifax, NS: MacDonald (Bingley), Myrtle Lillian – Halifax, passed away peacefully at home on October 23, 2005, in her 83rd year. It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a daughter of the late George Ernest and Hattie Mae Bingley. She was predeceased by her husband, Earle Douglas in 1993. Born and brought up in Drum Head, Guysborough Co., she lived there until her marriage in 1941, at that time they moved to Halifax where they started and brought up their family. She attended Maritime Business College and completed two St. John Ambulance Courses. She enjoyed attending church functions, cooking, baking, knitting, crocheting, reading and traveling. Myrtle and Earle spent many happy summers in their cottage at Stormont. She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Kathryn MacDonald, Halifax; sons, Gerald (Theresa), Lower Sackville; Rae (Lorraine), Bedford; granddaughters, Andrea O’Brien, Bedford; Julie Tilley, Calgary; Wanda MacDonald, Lower Sackville; Carrie MacDonald, Lower Sackville; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Erin, Bedford; Cameron and Erik, Calgary. Arrangements entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax, where visitation will be held 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, October 25, and funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 26, Pastor Reg Lewis and Dr. Wallace Jorden officiating. Interment will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in St. Mary’s Anglican Church Cemetery, Harrigan Cove, Halifax Co.
